'Star Wars' Actor Up To Play KURT COBAIN?
January 18, 2007Launch Radio Networks reports: Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is reportedly being considered to play late NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain in a movie about Cobain's life, according to England's Daily Express. McGregor, who has starred in films such as "Trainspotting" and played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the recent "Star Wars" prequels, is said to be the favorite choice of Cobain's widow, singer Courtney Love. A source told the Express, "A number of actors have been talked about (for) the role but Ewan has emerged as the number one choice."
McGregor has played a rock star before, appearing as a character allegedly based on Iggy Pop in the 1998 film "Velvet Goldmine".
Love recently wrote at Moonwashedrose.com that a film based on the 2001 Cobain biography "Heavier Than Heaven" was in the early stages of production, with two actors up for the role of the troubled singer and guitarist. Love also said that the actress hired to play her was "a little too pretty."
No other details about the Cobain movie have been revealed, including the director and release date. Although this would be the first official movie about Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994, the 2005 film "Last Days" was a highly fictionalized account of a Cobain-like musician's final week of life.
